Sharing Connexion, Inc. (“SCI”) is excited to announce the completion of another Real Estate Donation project in partnership with Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation (“Xerces Society”) located in Portland, Oregon. Xerces Society is an international nonprofit organization that protects the natural world through the conservation of invertebrates and their habitats.
Xerces Society originally reached out to SCI in the Spring of 2022 after being gifted the property via a trust. Xerces Society was interested in finding the right collaborative partners and through their inquiries of other non-profit organizations, they were introduced to SCI and its mission and services.
SCI was brought on not only to help with the turnover of the property but was also key in helping the organization navigate through Portland’s strict tenant laws. SCI was a welcome partner in helping to transition the property without any negative repercussions to the tenant or new owners of the property.
SCI took ownership of the gifted property in June 2022 and after $65,000 worth of renovations and repairs, and over 100 hours of work, SCI was able to list and sell the completed project resulting in over $460,000 being distributed to Xerces Society.
SCI was happy to help Xerces Society accept this exciting landmark gift! In addition to the enhanced community benefit, $50,000 was distributed to support our Real Estate Impact and Real Estate Rescue funds allowing for further project impacts across the nation.
Karl Souza, Director of Finance and Operations for The Xerces Society, Inc. Was so impressed with SCI’s involvement, he was quoted saying,
The Xerces Society, Inc is a small, non-profit with a small staff whose primary focus is invertebrate habitat conservation and restoration. We appreciate all of our donors, but we had limited resources to manage the donation and disposition process for a gift of real property. We were searching for an entity that could handle the transaction from start to finish and Sharing Connexion did just that. From dealing with estate lawyers to coordinating efforts with the property management company to fixing up the house to get a better ROI to closing out the tax and utility accounts after the property sold, SCI handled it all effectively and efficiently. The staff at SCI were consistently communicating with us about the process and always available to talk over options. We look forward to working with SCI as we expand our Planned Giving initiatives and provide new ways for our members to support our work.
